Become Your Own Hero

Growing up, I always thought that to be a hero was the greatest honor.

The hero is especially attractive to us boys, because it speaks to the protector aspect of the masculine. Funny, the protector also happens to show up very strongly in mothers.

But according to psychology and a bit of life experience, this is only a part of life’s growth phase.

The hero wishes to save everyone or a particular someone, by any means necessary, even if he/she has to sacrifice their own life.

It works perfectly well in Hollywood superhero movies, but in real life things tend to be a bit more complicated.

More often than not, none of us can really save another person, especially if they are not ready to help themselves.

We all must learn to become our own heroes in the first place. There is not much we can do, without further damage, if we have not gone through the process ourselves.

In fully going through the process, we fill our own cups. By filling our own cup, it becomes easier and much clearer to us of how we can truly help or support others.
