Self-Interest vs. Self-Sacrifice

Investing in our own best interest eventually flows over and supports the best interest of others.

This is the basic but classic and legendary tale of the cup that runneth over.

In order to truly share without strain or compromising self-sacrifice, one’s cup must be sufficiently filled before ever being able to pour into another.

We seem to have this backwards in many cultures. Throughout childhood especially, it was expected of us to continually compromise our own ideas(big or small) in favor of the grown-ups’.

Of course this trend then becomes a habitual pattern, we then wait for permission to fill our own cup.

With only half a cup, we cannot share freely & authentically. We try, but we always seem to fall short.

Afraid of being labeled as selfish is one of the biggest fears & roadblocks to meeting our own needs or filling our own cups.

But ultimately there is no other choice. Choosing otherwise is to continue compromising and to eventually sacrifice ourselves. Which in the end turns out to be the greatest act of selfishness.
