The Parachute

For most of our lives, we’ve been on a long plane, soaring through the skies of safety.

As kids we were checked on to this flight with minor baggage. Very soon we would have to choose our own flights. Knowledge of how to navigate through the clouds and the various storms and turbulences came from the conscious or unconscious efforts by parents or guardians who appear to be the pilot during our early years.

We all wish we could stay in the comfort of our respective Boeings, but unfortunately there comes a time where we eventually have to jump. I’ve seen skydiving before and it looks pretty terrifying.

Just the pressure of taking the leap becomes overwhelming of course. We start to question our abilities and competence. Along with that, those around us start to do the same. The perceived speed and standard of society becomes blinding.

Through numerous years of being sheltered and under-prepared, by both parents and school system, we are often left to our own indefinite fate.
